MEX

I hit MEX today for Happy Hour and boy was I happy that I did! In a show of massive restraint, I skipped the oh-so-tempting Margaritas. I’m working after all! Plus I feel like food tastes better when I’m drinking. Especially Thai food. Am I the only one? Anyway, I didn’t want to skew the results, so I opted for the Happy Hour menu chips and guac instead. Tasty! But I know what you are thinking, pretty tough to fail at chips and guac. Like chocolate, even when it’s bad it’s still pretty damn good.
Deciding on my entrée presented much more of challenge. Why? Because MEX can make almost anything (!) vegan. My mind was racing between tacos and fajitas. Or maybe a burrito. But man, that kale salad with cumin vinaigrette is right up my alley. It’s a real pleasure to have such a challenge, let me tell you! I finally settled on the soyrizo taco platter, swayed by the accompanying cilantro lime rice and beans. I will fess up, second only to deciding what to order, the next hardest part of the whole experience was waiting until I took food pictures before diving in. My patience was rewarded with a true first bite delight – crunchy, salty, spicy! A winning trifecta in my book. And there was plenty left over for dinner, to boot!
Kudos to MEX for not only being super flexible with dietary preferences, but also actually labeling the menu for vegans! It’s a tiny little 8-point font “V” but it sure does make a word of difference when you don’t have to ask ingredients for every interesting entrée, side, and app. I really appreciated this, and I have to think that the servers who aren’t peppered with ‘is there butter in this’ type questions must appreciate it too! Win win.
In honor of my bueno experience at MEX and my current Spanish lessons, let me close with this. Estoy muy feliz con MEX! Muchas gracias por el almuerzo fantástico. Hasta pronto por otra hora feliz! I’m on day 266 of lessons, so in case I butchered that…. I am very happy with MEX! Thank you for a fantastic lunch! See you soon for another happy hour! (It’s M-F 2p-5p BTW.)
